Food Cities 2022 Launch

The UK Food Foundation's Food Cities 2022 initiative aims to mobilise and support city authorities in ODA countries to develop and implement food policies, strategies and multi-stakeholder partnerships that aim to increase access to healthy diets and generate a positive impact of urban food systems as they respond to the COVID-19 emergency.

The initiative is a learning partnership that facilitates peer-to-peer exchange and offers an online platform with tools to guide cities in developing urban food systems solutions. It draws extensively on lessons from the successful partnership between Birmingham and Pune in India, which among others secured political support for a city-wide food policy in Pune and informed both cities’ COVID-19 emergency food response. It also led to the Government of India funding an expansion of this model across the whole country.

FCDO Director General, Vijay Rangarajan and Senior Advisor to Food System Summit Dialogues, Dr David Nabarro will discuss the key role for cities and society to tackle food system issues.
