Sustainable Development Goal 2 aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. This ambitious goal not only requires strong, multi-sectoral programming, it requires an understanding of the impacts of gender inequality on these areas, and the interventions that enable women to be leaders in nutrition, food security, and agriculture.

SDG 3 aims to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all. Nutrition is a key part of health promotion and disease prevention (in particular, non-communicable diseases). Every sector and community, as a whole, and each individual has a part to play to be accountable to address malnutrition, putting gender equality as the driving force.

As we work towards the Nutrition for Growth Summit in 2020, it is critical that partners continue to push for the inclusion of gender considerations into all nutrition, food security, and agriculture programming, and that we lift up the voices and leadership of women in these areas.

  • Raise awareness about the importance of bringing the unusual suspects – private sector, youth voices, culinary leaders - into SDG 2 and 3 advocacy as key stakeholders in nutrition and gender equality progress.
  • Highlight the need for Nutrition for Growth (N4G)/ Tokyo 2020 organizers to include these actors in the deliberations at, and leading up to, the Tokyo 2020 N4G Summit.
