The event will highlight the impact of COVID-19 on malnutrition. With worrying increases in child wasting and child death as a result of the pandemic, the heads of four UN agencies have put forward an urgent call to action. In this call they ask governments, donors, private sector and the UN to support national governments to mitigate further damage and protect children’s right to nutrition in the face of this pandemic:

• Safeguard access to nutritious, safe, and affordable diets;
• Invest decisively in maternal and child nutrition;
• Re-activate services for the early detection and treatment of child wasting;
• Maintain the provision of nutritious and safe school meals;
• Expand social protection to safeguard access to nutritious diets and essential services.
